La Boca's chef owners "open up"
Steven is half the creative team and the lead force behind getting meals to our guests every night we're open. He prepares all the dishes that come out of the kitchen and creates the delicious breads that La Boca is known for. He draws inspiration from all parts of the world, and appreciates the work of local farmers and chefs who use ingredients indigenous to their locale.
Steven worked in countless kitchens in Old Town, Alexandria Virginia before moving north to start his family, among them, Columbia Firehouse, La Bergerie, and The Fishmarket. He's held every kitchen position from dishwasher to executive chef and hopes to some day help young people interested in learning to cook, the way his chefs taught him.
When he's not preparing food, you can find him obsessing over Football Club Barcelona, the New England Patriots, or talking to one of his 12 siblings from home in Guatemala.
Liz is half the creative team and has her hands in all the operations at La Boca from marketing to expediting each ticket nightly in the kitchen. She designed our current take-out system to provide our guests with the ease and confidence to enjoy restaurant food safely at home during a pandemic.
Her favorite regions of the world to cook from are vast: Asia, the Middle East and Mediterranean- but she's always interested in trying something new, often adding it to the palette of flavors she paints from.
She received her undergrad degree from Dickinson College and planned to use her master's degree from Salem State University to teach high school... instead she used it to teach culinary arts at North Shore Community College for a number of years before moving back home to Wolfeboro, to start a family.
Liz took home the "Iron Chef Wolfeboro" title for La Boca in May of 2019 [above photo] and enjoys participating in events and outreach that build Wolfeboro and the Lakes Region's economy and sense of community. Liz says, "making people happy with food is the most satisfying part of being a chef." While she's running La Boca, Liz is also caring for Vida (6 yrs.) and Nima (3yrs.) who are showing great promise for being world class eaters.
